Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a form of neuromodulation that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate neuronal pathways in the brain that become altered in the case of mental illness. It is a first-line treatment and FDA-approved for major depressive disorder and used as an adjunct treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder. rTMS can also be used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar depression, and depression secondary to concussion or traumatic brain injury. Patients are fully awake and alert during treatment (no sedation or anaesthesia is required).
